Andrew Nathan Silberman
Age 67 of Minneapolis died suddenly on March 12, 2025.
Andy is survived by his wife of 41 years, Vicki; sons Jake and Michael (Lauren and son Mason); sister Eve (John Hilton) and brother Alex; and many dear cousins and good friends.
Andy was born on July 15th, 1957 to Jack and Clare Silberman in Oak Park, Michigan. He was loved deeply by his parents but following the deaths of Clare in 1969 and Jack in 1971, he was welcomed to the Durham, North Carolina home of his uncle and aunt Bernie and Pauline Silberman and their daughters Natalie, Sharon, and Andrea.
He graduated from Carleton College in 1979, and earned his master’s in journalism from the University of Minnesota in 1990.
After several years as a prize-winning writer at IDS, he freelanced full time, working happily from home, eventually sharing an office with Vicki, then a Hennepin County social worker.
While their sons attended Minneapolis Public Schools, Andy coached several of their Park and Rec sports teams. After the boys graduated, Andy and Vicki hosted several foreign exchange students. Andy enjoyed volunteering with the Rock Steady Boxing program, which assists people battling Parkinson’s Disease through boxing. He worked out at the Sabes Jewish Community Center, travelled often with Vicki, and got a special thrill attending the tennis academy of Stan Smith, his childhood idol.
Andy never forgot his childhood home. He took his family to Michigan yearly where they would attend Detroit Tigers and Lions games, as well as visiting Andy’s beloved Lafayette Coney Island and Star Bakery.
Despite early losses and recent health problems, Andy found pleasure in spending time with his family and friends, reading fiction, and exploring new delis. In messages of condolence, people recall his sweet disposition, sense of humor, and kindness. He will be profoundly missed.
