Florence E. Halverson, born on May 2, 1919, died peacefully on May 8, 2022
(Mother’s Day) at the age of 103. She was predeceased by her husband, C. Alfred
Halverson, Jr. She is survived by her children Anita Hoffman (Edward) of Apple
Valley, MN; Arlene Lee (Welton) of Oakland, CA; Louise Halverson (David
Sommer) of Richfield, MN; Cliff Halverson (Laurie Hedden) of Salinas, CA; and

Florence’s passions were family, music, and tennis, which she played until age 96.
She was a member of STPC for at least 15 years, captaining a senior women’s
doubles group on Friday mornings all year round for many years. At age 90, she
was playing 3 times a week. She played in the Jack Dow tournament a few times,
and had a trophy and medals to prove it. Florence made a number of
contributions to the Senior Tennis Times, including making up 2 tennis crossword
puzzles.
Florence diligently cared for her husband through his 31 years of disability while
raising the children. An active member of Living Spirit United Methodist Church
(formerly Asbury) of Minneapolis for some 70 years, she conducted their adult
and children’s choirs and bell choir. Other choirs she led included the Olive
Fremstad Singers, Mothersingers at a grade school, a tuned flower-pot ensemble,
and piano singalongs at her senior residence. Until her brief final illness, she
played piano music twice weekly at her residence dining room. Her positive spirit
and strong resolve will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life and burial were
held.
